Who: Current CCV College Family (current Undergraduates and Just Graduated!)
What:
An incredible week of serving together in rural West Virginia alongside our friends from sister churches in Chile and our partners in Welch. Three years ago we committed to develop relationship, for the next 10 years, as we serve alongside our faithful friends in Welch, West Virginia and the many ways in which they are sharing the Gospel and love of Christ in McDowell County.
We will be returning to serve alongside Pastor Paul Dick of Reclamation Church in Welch and our faithful friends Principal Sarah Diaz of Welch Elementary School and Robert Diaz of Latin Appalachian restaurant also in Welch.
In addition to the decades of challenges that the good people of McDowell County have persevered to grow through, there have been massive floods in the past 4 months that have wreaked havoc and destroyed many, many homes and businesses in McDowell Co. We have the unique opportunity to join in what the Lord is already doing in Welch and work alongside our friends to advance the Kingdom of Christ.
After prayer and discussion of the current needs that exist with our partners in Welch, we have designed our mission this July in the following ways, serving in three distinct capacities:
- Dental/Medical Clinic – We will be partnering with domestic and international Dentist and Medical staff to set up a mobile clinic to see and help local families and kids. Access to dental services is limited and medical/dental insurance is almost nonexistent in this community, and as such there is a great need for care.
- Our team will not only provide the dental/medical services needed but also provide the hosting and hospitality needed to care for families as they come through.
- Sports Camps/Clinics for youth – We will be offering and hosting 2 sports clinics for local students, a Soccer Clinic and Tournament and a Football Clinic and Tournament. After conversations with our partners in Welch, it is apparent that no sports camps are offered locally for youth in McDowell County and this would be a great way to share the love of Christ and encourage students in faith.
- Construction and Rehab/Flood Remediation – We will be helping with the physical needs in Welch and surround areas. One facet of our help will be directed toward increasing the capacity of Reclamation Church to host other teams that desire to come and help throughout the year. We will be helping build their capacity to do so through dorm, shower and bathroom rehab. The second facet of our help will be helping local families (single mothers and widows) to clean up flood and mud damage that will still be an issue in the months ahead.
During the evenings, we will be worshipping and receiving great biblical teaching and enjoying some summer side stops along the way!
When:
We will be leaving after church on Sunday, July 20, 2025 and returning to Vienna, late on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
Where:
We will be staying as a team in Reclamation Church, located in downtown Welch, West Virginia, the county seat for McDowell County, West Virginia.
How Will We Get There:
We will travel in rental vehicles, with leaders driving.
Cost:
The total cost of this week, including all transportation, lodging, food, program and mission costs is still being finalized (negotiating transportation and lodging costs) and will end up being $750-$875 per person.
